Australians are not easily impressed by politicians.

And so, Dear Reader, in this “nothing is secret” era of social media, we have Instagram to thank for revealing how at least some Aussies voted yesterday. Somehow, whilst we can’t in all conscience condone it, it does reassert ones faith in our fellow electors.

People “spoil” their ballot papers all over the world. Only in Australia is it this funny, and this bang on the money!

Meanwhile, the real election is just too fucking disastrous to comment on today. We are working up to tomorrow.

Defacing a ballot paper is a risky business – especially in the UK, where, during the last election, a man loathed the Tory candidate so much that he drew male genitalia in the box he should either have put a cross in or ignored it. The Returning Officer said of the ballot paper, that it was neatly drawn and within the box, therefore obviously intended to be a vote FOR the Tory! (I’d love to know which way that Returning Officer voted…. though we may be able to guess!)

I hope these protest votes fare better.

One that I didn’t put on the blog offered the Australian elite to “suck a bag of cocks”. With an appropriate illustration. I was so shocked: I didn’t think our readership could cope.

I think the only time I would have laughed at that would be in the present circumstances – politicians really don’t seem to care what people think of them – so long as they have a chance of power (and money!). Thank you for not including the illustration though Yolly!

My friends in Australia have just voted – apparently there was a paper longer than the booth was wide to fill in in the area my best friend lives, and elderly people were quite bewildered at all they had to do and it took them about ten minutes – ten minutes per scroll, not per paper, it was so long it was handed to them rolled up in a scroll!

Mind you, mad as that paper/scroll sounds, at least your system is fairer than ours, which has resulted in a government with a mandate from 25% of the possible electorate. Good grief!
